Mike finds time to step out into the woods of North Idaho as often as possible to forage for mushrooms, walk with the dogs, or simply enjoy nature. The outdoors is where he feels at home. This year, he brought something new into the field: his bionic arm, a Hero PRO.
Mike has adapted to life one-handed, so the new arm has been a learning curve he has enjoyed. “I was born without a left hand,” he explained. “Forty-seven years without a hand, but now I’m just practicing and practicing with the new arm.”
After being fitted with his Hero PRO, Mike began using it as often as possible to get comfortable with it. “It’s been great,” he said. “I’ve been wearing it every day and getting more used to it, carrying groceries, cutting up food, and playing with my dogs. I can wear it all day now and it’s comfortable.”
“
My Hero PRO is life changing. It’s amazing to be able to do things that other people with two hands can do. I don’t feel nearly as self-conscious in public now, which is amazing.
”
The more time he spent using the Hero PRO, the more naturally it became part of his routine. “Pretty much all my free time is spent in the woods,” he said. “I forage, and you know, do a lot of mushroom picking and stuff. So I’m excited to get out there and see how the Hero PRO handles it.”
Mike says the experience has changed how he feels about himself. “My Hero PRO is life changing. It’s amazing to be able to do things that other people with two hands can do. I don’t feel nearly as self-conscious in public now, which is amazing.”
He added, “I can’t thank Elise in the Colorado clinic enough. Thank you Open Bionics for changing my life.”
