Highlights from ISPO 2025: Open Bionics at the Forefront of Assistive Tech

3rd July 2025

Tack Stockholm!

We’ve just returned from ISPO 2025 in Stockholm—an important global event that brings together clinicians, researchers, policymakers, and innovators committed to improving quality of life through assistive technology. According to ISPO organizers, this year’s congress welcomed over 4,000 attendees from more than 100 countries, all focused on advancing prosthetic and orthotic care around the world.

For Open Bionics, it was an opportunity to connect with CPOs, OTs, physicians, researchers, students, and industry peers to share what we’ve been working on—and more importantly, to listen and learn.

Hero RGD, Hero PRO, Hero FLEX, and Hero Gauntlet in Focus

At our booth, visitors had the chance to get hands-on with our full lineup, including the wireless new devices Hero RGD, and Hero PRO, the versatile Hero FLEX, and the Hero Gauntlet. We also welcomed users Dominik and Daniel, who wear the Hero PRO and Gauntlet respectively. Both took part in interactive challenges—including dice stacking and the flick test—which showcased real-time control, grip strength, and device responsiveness.

Visitors, including those with osseointegrated limbs, engaged directly with the technology, offering insights grounded in lived experience. Feedback like this helps us refine our approach and rethink what performance, comfort, and adaptability can look like.

Feedback That Fuels Improvement

Across the event, we gathered practical feedback for our MyoPods, app usability, firmware behavior, grip functionality, and mechanical design. Several attendees shared ideas for improving grip cycling, thumb performance, charging behavior, and user interface simplification. These insights have already started informing internal discussions across our engineering and clinical teams.

Real Conversations, Real Impact

A particularly memorable moment came when a visitor tried on our demo Hero Arm and discovered it fit well enough to carry out a full range of test movements—sparking new conversations about fit and readiness straight from the booth.

Our clinical specialist, Rolanas Balcaitis, delivered a session on socket design developments for the Hero Arm and Hero FLEX using cutting-edge 3D modelling and printing, which prompted useful debate around suspension systems, weight distribution, and patient comfort. Looking Ahead

We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to stop by our booth, share their insights, or join us in a conversation. And for those who couldn’t attend in person—don’t worry. We regularly share R&D developments and product updates via our newsletter, sign up to stay in the loop.

The conversations we had in Stockholm reflect a shared global commitment to improving quality of life through prosthetic technology and excellent patient care. What stood out most was how rapidly expectations are shifting—clinicians and users alike are looking for more personalised, durable, and intuitive solutions. I’m proud of how our team continues to listen, adapt, and collaborate across disciplines to meet those expectations. — Joel Gibbard, CEO, Open Bionics”
