Lucky Fin Weekend 2025 was truly special. As one of the biggest events we look forward to each year, it once again brought together an incredible community. Being surrounded by so many families and friends from the limb difference community—celebrating differences, sharing stories, and supporting one another—is exactly what the Lucky Fin Project is all about.
We brought along plenty of tech to showcase—including the Hero PRO, Hero RGD, Hero Gauntlet, and Hero Flex. These devices sparked a lot of interest, especially when visitors saw how our full ecosystem is waterproof, wireless, and still incredibly lightweight.
“
Not only is Lucky Fin Weekend a great opportunity to showcase world-leading prosthetic technology, but it’s also one of the most wholesome experiences to share with people like me – Lucas, Hero Arm wearer 5 years.

Couldn’t make it this year? You can still explore our tech and register for a free demo here

Of course, no Lucky Fin Project Weekend would be complete without some fun freebies! Our popular mini 3D printed hands made an appearance, along with Open Bionics hats, stickers, and pens that were a big hit with attendees of all ages.

For the third year running, Lucas (our Patient Care Coordinator) and Dan, an Upper Limb Prosthetist in New York, flew into Troy, Michigan to represent the Open Bionics team. It was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with families, hear feedback, and share updates on what we’ve been working on.
“Not only is Lucky Fin Weekend a great opportunity to showcase world-leading prosthetic technology, but it’s also one of the most wholesome experiences to share with people like me,” said Lucas, who was born without his right arm and has been a Hero Arm user for five years.
“Connecting with children, having them run up to you for a hug with a big smile from ear to ear, and hearing them say, ‘Look mom, he has a nubby just like me!’ melts my heart every time.”
What makes Lucky Fin Weekend truly unique is the energy. It’s a space where families connect, kids feel seen, and new technology can be explored in a relaxed, welcoming environment. For our team, there’s nothing more meaningful than seeing someone try on a Hero Arm for the first time—or hearing how it’s already changing someone’s life.
A huge thank you to the Lucky Fin Project team and to every person who stopped by to chat, try out the tech, or simply say hello. We’re already counting down the days until next year!
If your child has expressed curiosity about trying a bionic arm, we would be more than happy to set up a free trial at your local clinic. Simply register and a member of our team will guide you to the nearest location.
