We need to talk about bionics and older adults, yes, you! We often receive some variation of these questions: I’d like to get a new prosthesis, but does Medicare cover prosthetic arms?

Bionic arm technology has changed significantly over the last 10 years. EMG sensors are now incredibly sensitive and can pick up the smallest of muscle movement and activity (required to trigger the sensors into operating the fingers). Not only are the sensors inside the arm more sensitive, they are customizable, and through use your muscles will strengthen and gain health!
We have Hero Arm users across the world who are aged 60+. Open Bionics’ oldest patient in the US is 73, a keen gambler, gardener, and grandmother of 12. She uses her Hero Arm to hold her cards during her weekly trip to the casino.

I absolutely love my new state-of-the-art Hero Arm! It’s 3D printed to fit me perfectly! It incorporates several advanced features, from three different user modes to carbon fiber cables. My Hero Arm has allowed me to return to many of my previous activities I could no longer do since my amputation. It’s functionality is only matched by it’s beauty, I love seeing it’s refection when I pass reflective surfaces! I would highly recommend this amazing prosthetic to anyone who needs one!
