Bionic Squad member Oxandre took part in the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics closing ceremony during the flag handover between Tokyo and Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The handover ceremony featured a dance choreography composed by Sadeck Waff. The performance included 126 dancers – with 15% of performers having disabilities, as a nod to the International Paralympic Committee’s #WeThe15 campaign.
Introducing the synchronized routine was French performer Oxandre Peckeu, who was born with a limb difference. In the first ten seconds of the performance, Oxandre is seen moving in sync with his Hero Arm before Sadeck joins him and orchestrates the rest of the performance.

Oxandre, from Pas-de-Calais was fitted with the Hero Arm when he was 12-years old, citing it was ‘love at first sight’ when he first found out about the bionic technology. Throughout his childhood Oxandre had worn other prostheses, but opening and closing was not natural and he was only able to have a pincer rather than a hand effect.
The Hero Arm was custom-made for Oxandre in 2019, and at the time he wanted to use it to do more activities like practicing playing chess, sports activities like archery, and artistic activities. When Oxandre was fitted with the Hero Arm, he participated in theatrical performances and wished to make his mark in the industry with the Hero Arm supporting him.
On a global stage at the closing ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, the Hero Arm on Oxandre’s arm moved intuitively in the performance of a lifetime. The Hero Arm uses myoelectric sensors which detect underlying muscular contractions generated from specific muscle groups in the arm. These are then amplified and converted into intuitive and proportional bionic hand movements.

With over 100 different components making up the Hero Arm, Oxandre’s bionic arm was inspired by Deus Ex, a popular video game created by Eidos-Montreal. With the latest version of the Hero Arm individuals are able to change the designs to match their style, personality and personal preference. Every Hero Arm cover has a magnetic clip that attaches to the Hero Arm to give individuals an easy way to switch up the designs of their bionic arms.
