The 12-year-old from Ecques in France was born without a left hand and has worn various prostheses since the age of three, but found them lacking in functionality. “As I grow up I need a lighter, more precise and more beautiful prosthesis,” said Oxandre. “My previous prosthesis was not aesthetic and had little pressure. Opening and closing were unnatural and the prosthesis had more of a pincer than a hand effect. It did not have much precision and does not allow me to carry heavy objects at all.”
In February 2019, we teamed up with Dupont Orthopédie in Dunkirk to fit Oxandre with a Hero Arm. The Hero Arm is a 3D-printed multi-grip bionic arm, medically certified and supported by French health insurance. It is lightweight, beautiful and precise. The full prosthesis weighs less than 1kg (2.2 pounds), which is at least a third the total weight of a traditionally manufactured prosthesis. Oxandre is passionate about chess, archery and horse riding, and with his new bionic arm the possibilities are limitless. Oxandre also loves theatre, and can’t wait to get up on stage with his futuristic bionic Hero Arm, complete with Deus Ex covers.
